Still some plants available - Tomatoes, Peppers, Cucumbers

Message from Karen today 30/4:

Have them in my polytunnel plot 16. Will be there tomorrow morning from about 9am-11am but will put plants outside my plot gate with an honesty box. 50p tomato- 50p for 2chillies/peppers- £1 cucumber/courgette.

There are those wee plastic greenhouses at Mill rd, so folk could keep them in there until their polytunnels go up this coming week. If they put the plants out during the day, and back into the shed at night, they should be ok I think.

Mill Road - work parties needed to help finish jobs on the site

Message from Karen:

Thanks for getting folk on Monday night and many thanks to all who came along to plant the bank. Carol has kindly offered to look after the azaleas until they can be planted on the other slope. However there are more jobs to attend to so more work parties required please.

1- Dig over the bed for apple trees where plot 30 was going to be. This is the wee triangular bed beside Jill & Kevin on plot1.

2- Dig over the edge of plot 29- where the posts have been positioned for the espalier apple trees. Just a metre or so border- which we can mark off clearly.

3- plant the rosa rugosa hedging. ( needs to come out of my plot & go in to Mill Rd as quickly as possible.......like this weekend.Plant sale tomorrow so that is out of the question- but jobs 1 & 2 could be got on with until we get the hedging in at the weekend.

Many thanks Karen. PS Trees are all ordered and could be here this week or next so we do need the soil prepared for them.Thank you

Karen

Millroad site

Millroad site is looking good, not much more work to be done on it, then its up to the plotholders to make a start on their plots, some folk have made a start which is good to see, and quite a few young ones as well which is alsogood to see. I have been busy with our plot at Sandown planting tatties and onion sets cauliflower carrots and beetroots, its the start of a new growing year for us all we will hope the weather is kind to us and that we get a good harvest for our labour, the tulips I planted behind our polytunnel are now starting to flower and it should be a nice display for us. I have got a few golden hop plants from the plant I have. Other things I have doing are sowing some annual flowers this will bring some colour to our plot and provide food for the bees.

photo from today - Sandown site

taken today (03/04/11) at our Sandown allotment site

A colourful site

What a grand job was done at the Sandown allotment site. The tubs that were planted up are looking good, many thanks to all those who helped to plant them, it just goes to show what some flowers can to do, it lifts your spirit to see this display of colour it makes you want to plant more flowers, something i had already done not that long ago behind our polytunnel I have planted tulips and alliums this should make for a good display, also outside our plot I have planted more alliums not only are they good for us to look at but the bees will get food from the as well, so I will be bringing more flower power to the site in my planting, why not join in its fun and just look at the rewards it brings to us all, a happy growing season to all plotholders - lets grow!
