The Society manages allotments (some subdivided) on the Common Good Land at Sandown Farm Nairn on the edge of Nairn. These allotments were created over 20 years ago when plot holders were evicted from Veiwfield for an extension of the facilities at Nairn Sports Club. Over the years the soil quality and fertility of these allotments has improved dramatically and a wide quality of fruit and vegetables are grown. Many of these vegetables are of a high quality and members frequently exhibit in local shows.
Nairn Allotment Society is campaigning for more allotments on the Sandown Lands either as part of any future housing development or as part of any community initiative. We have also spoken to Cawdor Estates to encourage them to include allotments as part of any development of the Delnies area and have received a positive response.
In the spring of 2012 work began on more allotments at Sandown. The work should be completed by mid-may and will take the total number of plots administered by the Society in Nairn to over 100.
